Hottest
school lunches (+recipes)
(2 Mar 11) It's that time of the year again. The
kids are back at school, but though it's only a week or two
in they're already screwing their noses up at the sammies and
fruit in their school lunches. Sound familiar? Kiwi baking
guru and Hottest Home Baker judge Dean Brettschneider has made
some tips for keeping the kids keen on eating the contents
of their lunchboxes. And some solutions for parents who traditionally
avoid home baking on the grounds it's too time-consuming and
expensive.

Dean
Brettschneider- Flying the Flag
(25
Dec 10) Tonight Brand Brettschneider is on the phone from his
London base. Last night it was Copenhagen (where he also has
a home); tomorrow he could be anywhere in Europe, or maybe
on his way back to New Zealand. But no matter where he is,
Brettschneider will maintain an international presence. “I
often describe myself as a guy from nowhere, but with many
influences,” he says. “I’m not bound by any one culture.” He
is talking about his baking style, but it could just as easily
be his lifestyle.

Dean in the News:
The baker man can
(1 Mar 2011) Between books, TV shows and travel,
it's a wonder this chef still gets time to bake. There's
the second season of NZ's Hottest Home Baker, (TV3, Thursdays,
7.30pm) on which he is the head judge with Aussie cake
queen Jade Lipton, and for which he is making one of his
flying visits back to New Zealand to promote. While here
he's filming appearances on Food TV's Food Store Chefs,
overseeing his popular micro bakery at Zarbo and consulting
to Starbucks NZ. By the time you read this, he'll be winging
his way to Shanghai where has a chain of successful bakeries
- Baker and Spice - and where he is also putting together
a travel-cum-food book on the city.
